YouTube updates Community Guidelines Strike System

YouTube updates Community Guidelines Strike System

In a blog post on February 19, 2019, YouTube announced changes to their Community Guidelines strike system, effective from February 25, 2019.

With the goal of educating creators, channels that violate YouTube's Community Guidelines for the first time, will not receive a strike, however, they will receive a one-time warning and the offending content will be removed. As before, creators will be able to appeal and if accepted by YouTube, the channel will still have a one-time warning next time.

From this point on, if the warning violation was confirmed, any other violations to YouTube's Community Guidelines will be followed by a strike, with the following restrictions:

  1. The first strike will result in a one-week freeze on the ability to upload any new content to YouTube, including live streaming, and other channel activities. Strikes will expire after 90 days.
  1. The second strike in any 90-day period will result in a two-week freeze on the ability to upload any new content to YouTube.
  1. The third strike in any 90-day period will result in channel termination.

Also to notice is that even though most strikes are related to videos, the Community Guidelines cover all content on YouTube, which include stories, custom thumbnails, or links to other websites included in a video’s description or infocard.

YouTube also mentioned that they will be providing more details about the violation to clarify the reasons behind it and what are the next steps available. Below you will find a YouTube video with more details. For more information, click here.
