More copyright matches on YouTube starting June 2018

YouTube has recently shared additional information regarding the matched third-party content. Starting June 2018, creators that use third-party content in their productions, may see more Content ID claims due to manual reviews, which will be applied, at first, in the newly uploaded content, and some time after, in older content available on the channel. However, it's expected that due to these reviews being manual, those matches may take some time to show up, after the video has been uploaded.

If you use third-party content in your videos, you may see Content ID claims or even copyright takedowns. This makes it even more important for creators to make sure that they use third-party content in a responsible way, by following YouTube's Fair Use policy, and obtaining the appropriate permissions prior to uploading the third-party content.

To help you understand how you can use third-party content in your productions, and see some cases of potential misused third-party content, make sure to check our FAQ about unlinked channels, by clicking here. Also check out YouTube's lesson about how to navigate copyright permissions.

When using third-party music, consider using the music Freedom! offers, such as Music Factory, which includes hundreds of musics create in house here at Freedom! that is safe to use (no strikes will be issued when using it).

If any of your videos get Content ID matches for content that you have previously obtained a license for, you may want to reach out to the rights-holder(s) to get whitelisted from Content ID. Content ID claims do not create strikes on your account and if you agree with the claim, you can just move on. Here are other actions you can take regarding Content ID matches in your content:
