Why are some of my videos that were previously claimed by rights holders now blocked in the United States?
In order to deliver a great experience for fans who choose to pay for a YouTube Premium membership, YouTube wants to ensure they can watch all the same videos that are available on the ad-supported experience. In order to do that, YouTube is updating their contracts with all of our content partners. The new terms make it possible for YouTube to share subscription revenues with creators, providing an additional revenue stream beyond ad-supported YouTube revenue. While the overwhelming majority of videos on YouTube are accounted for in YouTube’s agreements, there are some partners who have asked for more time to think about their options. While YouTube works with these partners to update their terms, YouTube unfortunately can’t make their claimed videos available in the US.
Is there anything I can do to get my videos up and running again?
There are a few options that might be available to you.
- If you believe Content ID mistakenly identified content in your video, or if you have all the rights to use that content, you may be able to dispute. Visit YouTube’s help center to learn more about addressing claims.

If you’ve received an audio claim, you may be able to remove the song. You can also take advantage of the YouTube Audio Library, Uzer Music, AudioMicro, or Epidemic Sound – royalty-free tracks you can use for free, forever, for any content you make (not just YouTube videos).
Will YouTube Movies' content (rentals) be included in this new membership service?
No, YouTube’s transactional service for movies and TV (YouTube.com/movies) will remain separate from this offering.
How does this impact advertising on YouTube?
Advertising funds much of the web and YouTube continues to be incredibly excited about the power of video advertising to help creators fund their content, and to help advertisers connect with consumers. Since the early days of YouTube’s business, they have been committed to putting users in control of their online experience. A YouTube Premium membership is simply a way to offer a subset of users more choices for how they enjoy YouTube videos. YouTube’s ad-supported business is still their core business and will stay a big focus for us.
