Before you do your shooting, here are some pre-production tips that will help you get there with less stress.
Plan your video content
Goal setting should be at the center of your production. Maybe it's a comedy skit or dialog heavy video, but it can be anything. Just make sure you set your goals early on so your can create a solid plan for the shots.
Storyboard
Storyboards are a great way to see in more detail what you want to achieve with your shots, and what will be the sequence of the shots. This will keep everything organized and even save you time.
Ready your equipment
Making a list of the equipment you will need to the shooting as well as checking if it's in working order (charge those batteries), may save you some headaches and unforeseen delays.
Pick a location and shoot in a good background
The background you use for your shots is very important to create the environment for your production and reinforces the idea you want to share with the audience. Here, attention to detail is a must. Make sure everything in the background makes sense. This is especially important if your production is based on creating a specific illusion or has an emphasis on environment.
Make due with what you have
If you only have a portable camera or a smartphone, that is just fine. The message you have to share is the most important asset of your production.
Avoid using your phones microphone
If you just have your smartphone microphone, that's ok. But as soon as you have the option to buy a dedicated microphone, you really should consider it as it will improve the production's audio quality and even save time on editing.
