Why was my channel terminated for spam by YouTube?

As a content creation site, YouTube strives to keep its site as a clean and healthy video ecosystem. that being said, there are a few offensive channels that occasionally breach limitations and break rules. As such, YouTube will remove them for various reasons, including spam. Below are some excellent pointers on why a channel may be terminated/suspended for spam, and probable solutions to get your channel back, or to prevent being terminated in the first place.

‘Tags’ placed in video descriptions

YouTube has, for some time, terminated channels which have been found to place video tags in its video descriptions. This technique was used to boost video exposure, and is not condoned by YouTube. For more information, please refer to the video below:

Usage of link shorteners (especially adf.ly!)

As link shorteners have been deemed notorious in misleading users to a wrong website or in scams intended towards viewers, YouTube has also been removing channels who consistently use commercial link shorteners such as adf.ly and LinkBucks. If you were using them until now, make sure to remove them from all of your videos. For more information, please refer to the video below:

Associations with websites marked as spam

If you have linked your YouTube channel’s associated Google+ page to a website and verified it, Google will also take into account the reputation of said website as basis of your channel behaviour. Hence, your channel can also be terminated for spam should your website appear to exhibit ‘spammy’ behaviour, as determined by Google. If your channel was recently terminated, try dis-associating any verified sites from your associated Google+ page and see if your channel is reinstated (you may need to wait 24-48 hours for changes to fully apply). More information can be found in the video below.

If any of the above tips do not seem to work in your situation, we recommend appealing your termination via the Google knowledge base. Likewise, if your channel was terminated for other reasons, feel free to refer to Google’s article located here.

We hope you find this article informative in helping you to prevent from and resolve any channel terminations/suspensions. As always, if you have further questions or queries regarding this matter, feel free to submit a ticket to us with the ticket type Terminated Channel, and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
