Following the announcement of YouTube Memberships, YouTube announced that creators will no longer be able to create new paid content on YouTube, starting on September 19, 2017 and that the service will be discontinued on December 1, 2017.
YouTube's road map for paid content:
- September 19, 2017 - New paid content is no longer an option, viewers not able to subcribe, paid channels and videos still available until December 1, 2017.
- November 1, 2017 - Viewers will no longer be charged for subscriptions.
- December 1, 2017 - All paid content will be made private automatically, but creators can still make them public for free. Individual videos purchased (not rented) by viewers should not be removed, due to purchase terms, until December 1, 2022.
